“If you plan for a year, plant a seed. If for ten years, plant a tree. If for a hundred years, teach the people. When you sow a seed once, you will reap a single harvest. When you teach the people, you will reap a hundred harvests.”

~ Kuan Chung

Our Roots in the Community program is all about planting roots in the communities we work in and dedicating resources that increase the impact of our programs, strengthens and grows the number of families reached within a single community to creating more paths out of poverty. Our Roots in the Community program creates targeted projects that last three - five years in high poverty communities where our organization will invest time, talent and resources that will remain and continue to grow, long after the project has ended.

"Every time I am going somewhere that I don’t know, I use my GPS, once I type the address, it calculates the route and I follow it to my destination. Life works the same way, unfortunately I wanted to take my life to places and I didn’t know how to map it out.

Thank God for The One Less Foundation, for being the GPS that my life needed. My route is calculated and my destination (dream) is clear. With the Life Coaching program and the personal finance program I am on my way to live life with purpose".

"I have been in the RISE mentoring program and SAT prep class for 6 weeks and I have learned a lot of valuable information. The first time I took the SAT’s my score was a 900. The second time that I took the test my score was 150 points more than the first time.

The mentoring program helped me a lot as well. In the mentoring program, I learned about different careers. I also learned about the types of degrees that I would have to obtain in order to get in the career that I want. We also talked about school. On the last day of the program, my mentor and I made friendship bracelets. In the end, Whitney was a great mentor and became a good friend".
